Amman Citadel

The Hill of the Citadel (Jabal al-Qal'a) in the middle of Amman was inhabited as early as the Neolithic period, and the Bronze Age. The ruins on the hill today are Roman through early Islamic.It includes the Roman Temple of Hercules dated from 162-166 AD. The Byzantine basilica church which was constructed in the 6th centuries AD. Its nave is flanked by two rows of columns. And an integrated Umayyad city with its streets, a public yard, suq (shops), residential and administrative areas, mosque, Reception Hall and Throne hall and water cistern.
