Humayma

The stronghold of the Abbasid movement and the place of its launch for the establishment of their state. It is a small village located in the Ma'an Governorate, formerly known as Hawara. Al-Humayma is located about 300 km to the south of Amman, and about 100 km north of the city of Aqaba. Archaeological excavations that took place in al-Humayma revealed a group of antiquities dating back to the Nabatean, Roman, Byzantine and Umayyad periods.
