Jordan Hejaz Railway

The Hejaz line is the last religious landmark and great achievements of the Ottoman Empire, which revolutionised the world of rapid pilgrim transport and security in those days. They travelled on camels through the vast desert, putting themselves at risk of death, loss and disease, until this line was built to extend from Damascus to Medina near Mecca. Work began in September 1900, work began on the construction of a narrow railway (105 cm) with axial weight (10.5 tons).
